Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: 5 May 2026  ·  Compliant with Consumer Protection Act 2019 & RBI Guidelines

This Refund & Cancellation Policy applies to all paid subscription plans and financial transactions facilitated through the Rent Right platform. By subscribing to any paid plan or initiating a financial transaction on the Platform, you agree to this Policy.

1. Subscription Plans — Free Trial

All paid plans (Solo, Starter, Professional, Elite) include a 14-day free trial. No payment is collected during the trial period. You may cancel at any time during the trial without any charge.

If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your plan will automatically convert to a paid subscription and your saved payment method will be billed for the first billing cycle.

2. Subscription Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings under Settings → Billing → Cancel Plan.

  • Monthly Plans: Access continues until the end of the current billing month. No further charges are made after cancellation.
  • Annual Plans: Access continues until the end of the current annual billing period. No further charges are made after cancellation.

Cancellation takes effect immediately upon your confirmation. Data is retained per our Privacy Policy until the retention period lapses.

3. Subscription Refund Eligibility

4. How to Request a Refund

  1. Email billing@rentright.in with subject: "Refund Request — [Your Account Email]"
  2. Include your registered email, subscription plan name, and the reason for the refund request.
  3. We will acknowledge your request within 2 business days.
  4. Eligible refunds are processed within 5–7 business days to the original payment method.
  5. Bank credit timelines (3–5 additional days) depend on your bank or card issuer.

5. Deposit Shield — Security Deposit Refunds

Security deposits protected by Deposit Shield are not subscription fees. They are the Tenant's funds held on trust by Rent Right's licensed payment partner. The following terms apply:

  • Refund Timeline: Deposits are released to the Tenant within 7 business days of tenancy end, subject to owner deduction claims.
  • Owner Deductions: Owners must raise itemised deduction claims with supporting photographic evidence within 5 business days of possession handover. Tenants have 7 days to accept or dispute each item. Claims without evidence will be rejected.
  • Dispute Resolution: If the Tenant disputes a deduction, Rent Right issues a non-binding recommendation based on fair-wear guidelines and tenancy duration. Both parties are free to accept or escalate through consumer redressal channels.
  • Abandonment: If the owner fails to raise a claim within 5 business days, the full deposit is returned to the Tenant.
  • State Law: Security deposit refund timelines also depend on applicable State rent control laws (e.g., Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999 — within 1 month of vacating).

6. Rent Payment Refunds (Tenant → Owner)

Rent payments are direct peer-to-peer transfers between Tenants and property owners. Rent Right does not hold or intermediate rent funds (except Deposit Shield). Refund of rent for any reason (overpayment, early vacation) is a matter between owner and Tenant governed by the rent agreement.

In case of a failed UPI transaction that was debited from the Tenant but not credited to the owner, the amount is automatically reversed to the source account within 3–5 business days per NPCI guidelines. Contact your bank if reversal does not occur within 7 days.

7. Vendor Service Refunds

Payments to vendors for maintenance services are made directly to vendors. Rent Right does not collect or hold vendor payments on your behalf.

Disputes about vendor service quality must be raised within 48 hours of service completion. Rent Right may, at its discretion, facilitate mediation between you and the vendor. We do not guarantee vendor refunds.

8. Downgrade & Plan Changes

You may downgrade your plan at any time from account settings. The downgrade takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle. No refund is issued for the unused remainder of your current billing period following a downgrade.

Upgrading takes effect immediately. The price difference is charged on a prorated basis for the remaining days in the billing cycle.

9. GST on Refunds

Refunds of subscription fees include the GST component. A revised GST invoice (credit note) will be issued for the refunded amount as required under Section 34 of the CGST Act, 2017.

10. Consumer Rights

Nothing in this Policy limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. If you are not satisfied with our response to a refund request, you may approach:

  • National Consumer Helpline: 1800-11-4000 (toll-free) or consumerhelpline.gov.in
  • Consumer Forum: District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission with jurisdiction over Hyderabad, Telangana
  • Online Dispute Resolution: SEBI ODR or RBI Banking Ombudsman (for payment issues)
